New Website for Ontario Street

In case it hasn’t occurred to you that things look a bit different on the church’s website lately, we’d like to announce that we have moved our home on the internet to servers operated by United Methodist Communications (UMCom).

Eight years ago, Ontario Street Church started our fledgling site on the “web” on servers hosted by the General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM) who at that time very graciously offered the service and a modest amount of space at no cost to local UM churches and related organizations as long as those groups provided their own website developers and maintainers.  Time has marched on, situations change and recently the GBGM announced that they would be shutting down their web servers that have provided the free hosting.

It was under this pending loss of service that UMCom stepped up and announced they would provide web services at a nominal cost to UM churches and groups.  In addition to hosting the websites, UMCom is also offering a content management system (CMS) called WordPress that eliminates the need for the maintainers of the websites to be masters of the technical languages and coding from which web pages are derived.  Utilizing templates, virtually anyone who can create a document in a word processing program or author a “blog” (i.e. web log)  can, with a little orientation, maintain the content of one of these new websites.

That is how you find us now with a new look.  The migration of our content from our old web code to the new WordPress templates takes some time, but we will be regularly adding more and more features and information to the site.  So, come back and visit often.

We’d love to hear what you think about the site and what you would like to see added or changed.  Drop us a line at ontariostreetumc@gmail.com

Yours in Christ,

OSUMC Web Support
